Political tensions in the UK escalated over the weekend after Reform UK councillor George Finch, aged 19, was attacked outside a local event in Nuneaton.

Party leader Nigel Farage has directly blamed Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s rhetoric for “fueling hostility against Reform voters,” following what he described as a “cowardly and politically motivated assault.”

The Incident

Witnesses reported that Finch was leaving a community centre after attending a council meeting when he was confronted by a small group of men. The altercation quickly turned violent, leaving the councillor with facial injuries.

Police confirmed they are investigating the incident and reviewing CCTV footage. One suspect has already been detained for questioning.

Farage’s Reaction

In a fiery statement, Farage accused the government of allowing “toxic political tribalism” to spread. “When you call people extremists simply for supporting different policies, this is what happens,” he said.

Labour officials condemned the violence, stating that no political disagreement justifies physical harm. “We utterly reject all violence and intimidation in politics,” a Labour spokesperson responded.

Broader Political Climate

The attack comes amid growing division in British politics following the general election. Analysts suggest rising public frustration over immigration, cost of living, and leadership trust has intensified party rivalries.

Despite the tension, Reform UK’s local support appears to have strengthened. Many residents expressed solidarity with Finch, calling him “a brave young man standing up for his beliefs.”

Police are urging calm while the investigation continues.
